I’ve been doing my own shellac nails for years and I’m giving you all the steps and tools to do them yourself too! Some people love going to the salon to have a professional do them, and I do too, but sometimes I just don’t have time or I want to save the money. I also really enjoy painting nails too! We paint nails during girls nights and family events all the time! Check out my video on how to get pretty shellac nails that last up to 1 to 2 weeks!
STEPS
STEP 1. SPF Lotion!! No age spots please!
STEP 2. Prep the Nail: File push back and cut cuticles.
STEP 3. BUFF!!!! If you don’t buff your polish will not last two weeks. This is probably the most important step.
STEP 4. PH Bond OR I think rubbing alcohol is WAY BETTER: Wipe on each nail and let dry.
STEP 5. Foundation: Keep this thin and on the nail only. Try not to get it on the skin. If I have time,
STEP 6. Put Under Light: My light calls for two minutes, some other lights might not take as long. I also put the foundation in for two rounds so 4 minutes total.
STEP 7. Color Polish: Brush a thin layer of the color polish on the nail. (THIN!!!)
STEP 8. Put Under Light: You will do this 1 or 2 more times. I usually give darker colors two coats of polish and lighter coats 3 coats of polish. Make sure to put under the light for a full 2 minutes after each coat.
STEP 9. Top it Off: Brush the top coat over the color polish.
STEP 10. Put Under the Light: Last time!
STEP 11. Nail Surface Cleanse: (again) Wipe on with gauze pad or cotton ball, this takes off the top layer.
STEP 12. Nourish: Brush this around your cuticles to help keep them healthy.
